Right field
Home of the strongest arm on the field — and the smartest choices about when to use it.
The rule: A big arm wins when it throws to the RIGHT base — usually ahead of the lead runner, or to the cut-off.
The cannon
Right field owns the longest throws.
Third base and home plate are both a country mile from right field. That is why the strongest outfield arm plays here — when your throw matters, it REALLY matters.
Pick your spot
A big arm is a choice, not a habit.
Runners will test you. Most of the time the winning play is not the 200-foot laser — it is the quick, smart throw ahead of the lead runner that keeps everyone from taking an extra base.
Back up first
Every infield throw to first is yours to back up.
Grounder to short? Start moving. If the throw to first skips away, you are the one who keeps the batter from waltzing to second. Nobody claps for it, but coaches see it every time.
Use the cut-off
When the throw is too far, split it in two.
Runner tagging, ball caught deep in right? The second baseman is already running out to relay. Hit him hard and low — two accurate throws beat one rainbow every time.
The run scores. Now what?
Single to right with a runner on third — that run scores, nothing you can do. But the batter is watching your arm. Where is the real play? Tap it.
